Dr. Johnson is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Counseling having served at universities such as: The University of the District of Columbia, the Johns Hopkins University, Howard University, Ohio State University, S. Louis University, and Southern Illinois University.
Dr. Johnson has achieved excellence in his extensive private practice. He is an expert in the area of Diagnosis in Counseling and Psychotherapy and this is one of the courses he has taugh to the Masters and Doctoral students at Johns Hopkins University. He specializes in private Clinical Counseling and Psychotherapy and is an expert in the use of the Multi-Axial Diagnosis of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV-TR). As Dr. Johnson is a Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Techniques, his private clients may present with any of the 350 disorders in the DSM-IV-TR and he offers them expert clinical intervention and/or referrals. Dr. Johnson works in collaboration with medical psychiatrists when he assesses the need for an evaluation to occur to determine the proper medication to be used in concert with his clinical counseling and psychotherapy.
Dr. Johnson is the Founder, President and Principal Psychotherapist of the Graduate School Outreach Community Clinic, a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt institution.
Dr. Johnson is very active in the community, providing professional assistance to the staff at public and private schools in the D.C. Metropolitan area. In addition, Dr. Johnson conducts Anger Management Counseling and Training sessions for each school's "most disruptive, angry and hostile students". Moreover, he conducts staff development workshops for area schools to assist them with their "SAFE SCHOOL INITIATIVES" (a program that helps schools achieve a peaceful and non-violent atmosphere).
Dr. Johnson has received many awards and recognitions, some of them are: The Graduate Students at the University of the District of Columbia voted and awarded him an Outstanding Teaching Certificate, and he received an Outstanding Community Service Award by the DC Counseling Association. He was also awarded the C. Harold McCully Recognition Award by the DC Counseling Association. Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Christian Counselors Association (Clergy and believers seek his services to meet Biblical directives to seek "Godly Counsel"), the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, Chi Sigma Iota, and is an ORDAINED BAPTIST DEACON. He has been noted as "Excellent in Teaching" by the Graduate Master's and Doctorate students and the Department Chair at the Johns Hopkins University's, Department of Counseling. He developed and counsels with his unique Gospelized Afro-Cognitive approach which works well with individual, couple, and family clients. Thus, he effectively integrates the spiritual with the secular/spiritual dimensions of healing.

Dr. Johnson is also an active clinical consultant acting as an expert witness in numerous cases in the Washington Metropolitan area. His Forensic clinical intervention and assessments include but is not limited to child custody, court ordered assessments of allegations of child sexual abuse, assessment of fitness, clinical multi-axial evaluation and diagnosis and a myriad of disorders which warrant clinical forensic assessments and/or treatment.

Dr. Johnson is a professional consultant in the Metropolitan - D.C. area. He and his staff treat all aspects of sexual addition including teen gender identity issues and ponography addiction. Also, he has provided group counseling for the Montgomery County's Pre-Release Program, Family Counseling for the DC Department of Health and Welfare's Adoption Branch and Individual and Family Counseling for the Montgomery County's Child Welfare Program. Dr. Johnson has also served as a consultant to the Courts and he has provided private special therapeutic interventions for the Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents.

Mrs. Johnson is the Executive Clinical Director at Afro-American Counseling & Psychotherapy Institute, Inc. She is the Clinical Supervisor for the Graduate School Outreach Counseling Clinic, Inc. a 501(c)3 IRS Tax Exempt Public Corporation. Mrs. Johnson is the Director for the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church Counseling Ministry. In addition, Mrs. Johnson was a Faculty Associate in the Department of Counseling at the Johns Hopkins University and was formerly a school counselor and teacher. Mrs. Johnson received her graduate degree from the University of the District of Columbia, is a Licensed Professional Counselor for the District of Columbia, has received her credentials as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for the State of Maryland, is a National Certified Counselor, and is a Certified Life Coach.
Mrs. Johnson has a broad and in depth experiential background which seasons and gives a special sensitive wisdom to her extensive private practice. These practical and academic experiences include but are not limited to the following clinically:
Mrs. Johnson's proven ability to address a wide scope of DSM-IV-TR disorders, especially with couples, with individual and family clinical counseling. Also, Mrs. Johnson has provided clinical counseling services to DC Public Schools, which include the highly successful "Achievement Motivation Via Anger Management" program. This program included providing group counseling to students who were identified as the most angry, off-task, disruptive, hostile and violent students. She has coordinated and directed a Medicaid Initiative at the Counseling Ministry program at the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church and selected DC Public Schools, where she supervised a core of practicum students from area colleges and universities in efforts to provide group, individual, and family counseling on a variety of issues utilizing cognitive therapy, solution oriented and brief therapy techniques. She has provided supervision to professional counselors seeking experiential clinical counseling hours to receive licensure credentials.
In addition to her extensive private clients, Mrs. Johnson has provided contractual clinical counseling services to the State of Maryland's Department of Health and Human Services, the Child Welfare division, working for reunification of families. She has provided group and individual counseling to the residents of the Montgomery County Pre-release Center and to the CART Program.
Mrs. Johnson is a member in good standing of the American Counseling Association, the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, the Grow Training Institute for Certified Professional Life Coaches, the Maryland Association for Counseling and Development, the DC Counseling Association, and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
